The third day of FUT 19's Team of the Year promo is in full effect.
Once again following the trend of FIFA 18, which saw a day one release of the three attackers followed by the three midfielders, EA's now released the four defensive players and goalkeeper. With TOTW 16 giving way to 17 today, these five TOTY players will remain in packs along with the black-and-gold IFs through Thursday evening U.K. time. It's not clear when the full TOTY will be available, though the 12th yet to be voted in player is expected Friday.
As announced Monday afternoon, goalkeeper David De Gea leads the way in a bit of a contentious selection. Though most would agree DDG is one of if not the best current goalkeepers out there, a poor (by his standards) 2018 World Cup and a lack of trophies had some lobbying for Atletico's Jan Oblak (whose Slovenia failed to qualify for Russia). DDG once again has an absurdly rated card that should be the gold standard for competitive FIFA, but as per usual, some out of superstition or otherwise will probably still elect opt for lesser rated pet players.
Fellow Spaniard Sergio Ramos, a bit of a reputational choice at this point but a TOTY regular and three-time-consecutive UEFA Champions League champion, gets his customary monster blue special player item. His Real Madrid teammates, Raphael Varane -- arguably France's key defensive cog behind N'Golo Kante -- and fellow TOTY staple Marcelo add to the La Liga haul.
Rounding out the back line is an absurd looking Virgil Van Dijk. Some may nitpick his inclusion as well, but his work in the UEFA Nations League and this fall for first-place Liverpool give him a strong case to boot.
As mentioned, the defenders and goalkeeper are in packs by themselves until Thursday at 6 p.m. UK. And if you haven't already done so, make sure you login to FUT to cast your vote for Friday's previously mentioned 12th Team of the Year member.
