FIFA 18 Team of the Week 46 Predictions

Last week's score: 15/23
Formation: 3-4-1-2
Squad Link:

Alphonse Areola - GK - OVR 79 With the new UEFA nations format to these "friendlies" a lot of nations have fielded a half string side, which shows just how seriously they are taking it. This gave a chance to Areola in goal for France and he performed outstandingly. In total he made five saves in their 0-0 draw with Germany, claiming MOTM in the process.

David Alaba - LWB - OVR 86 The position of Alaba is up for debate in my eyes but I thought the same last time with the exact same Austrian formation and he went on to pick up an IF at LWB and thus I am going to presume that he will be classed as an LWB once again. He scored one of two Austrian goals in a 2-0 alongside helping to pick up that clean sheet.

Jose Gimenez - CB - OVR 83 Uruguay recorded an impressive 4-1 win over Mexico from which a couple of IF options appear from. One of those is Gimenez who scored one of those four goals and with a lack of clear-cut defensive options I feel as though that will work in the Uruguayan’s favour.

Pepe - CB - OVR 86 It’s a tad surprising that Pepe has not picked up an IF yet which has only happened once before in the last eight FIFA's. A large reason for that is the fact he now plays in Turkey but after scoring once in Portugal's first match before keeping a clean sheet in their 1-0 win over Italy I think he could just sneak one in.

Mohamed Salah - RW - OVR 85 It could have been that much more impressive with Salah failing to convert both penalties he took but with two goals and two assists to his name he is very difficult to overlook despite that. The number of special items he already has also goes against him but with it being the final week of FIFA 18 I don't think that really matters.

Christian Eriksen - CM - OVR 88 Potentially due to a deeper role Eriksen is yet to thrive for Tottenham this season but back in the Danish shirt and he is back within the goals, scoring both in a 2-0 win over Wales from CM.

Wahbi Khazri - CAM - OVR 78 Another from the AFCON games now and one which is risky as you must look hard to find the assists for these matches but Khaziri was vital in Tunisia's 2-0 win claiming both the assists to help them claim all three points.

Rodrigo- RW - OVR 80 It's Usually an English IF we see in these sort of weeks but this time it looks as though the IF is coming against England with Rodrigo scoring one and assisting another to help Spain come from behind to beat England 2-1.

Saul - CM - OVR 83 A second Spanish player now and probably the better option of the two is Saul. Although Rodrigo got the extra assist Saul was awarded MOTM for his performance from every source used and thus with it being one of the bigger games I can't see him being overlooked.

Michy Batshuayi - ST - OVR 80 Batshuayi consistently struggles to get first team football for both Chelsea and Belgium but when he plays he scores goals and is perhaps one of the more unfortunate players when it comes to catching a break. He came off the bench during Belgium’s 4-0 win over Scotland to score twice.

Memphis Depay - ST - OVR 80 The Dutch side was once among the very best, but we are now in a different era with the side looking significantly weaker. Depay is a stand out in the side and his two goals helped them come from behind to beat Peru 2-1.

Thomas Strakosha - GK - OVR 77 Another keeper which excelled was Strakosha, who was brilliant for Albania during their 1-0 win over Israel making five saves to ensure he kept his clean sheet. Muslera is the alternative but I believe that the UEFA nations match ups will gain priority.

Fabian Schar - CB - OVR 77 With Switzerland cruising to a 6-0 home win over Iceland you would think that there would be an obvious IF candidate but that is anything but the case with six different names on the scoresheet. Instead we look at assists and with Schar claiming two it’s the CB that I am opting for.

Juraj Kucka - CM - OVR 79 One of the early fixtures saw Kucka pick up his spot in the side after his two assists helped secure Slovakia their win. The fact it comes during midweek does harm his chances, but the international weeks usually see multiple Wednesday/Thursday games taken into consideration.

Sebastian Blanco - CAM - OVR 75 Although the MLS was in action there were only four games played which significantly reduced the chances of an IF occurring, that was further reduced when the majority of games had less than three goals. This leaves Blanco as the only real option after he picked up the assist on both Portland goals as they beat Colorado 2-0.

Denis Zakaria - CM - OVR 77 Another Swiss selection coming from their 6-0 win is Zakaria. The young midfielder is going from strength to strength and could well be a big name in years to come. He gets the IF selection for his goal and assist which saw him awarded MOTM.

Macnelly Torres - CM - OVR 76 Moving back to the domestic games and we have one of two Colombians I have selected this week. Macnelly Torres was outstanding for Cali, being involved in all three of their goals, with a goal and two assists as they recorded a 3-0 win.

Ruben Castro - ST - OVR 81 Las Palmas ran away as 4-0 winners when hosting Gimnastic with two potential IF's coming from it the first is Lemos who picked up a goal and assist from RB but with him being a silver I opted for the gold in Castro who scored twice.

Pierce Sweeney - RB - OVR 58 Although one of Sweeney's two goals came from the spot the fact that the other was from open play will work wonders for him. Exeter went on to win the game 5-1 and Sweeney can claim the only brace from defense this week.

Stefan Johansen - RM - OVR 74 With it being an international week for the most part the reserves are difficult to select with the hat tricks not occurring and it being full of obscure nations, but Johansen's brace makes for an easy selection after he scored both of Norway's goals in their 2-0 home win over Cyprus.

Bozhidar Kraev - CAM - OVR 62 It was an impressive win for Bulgaria away at Slovenia which only increases the chances of Kraev's selection. Playing in what looks to be a CAM role Kraev scored twice in the 2-1 away win.

Matt Godden - ST - OVR 63 Somehow Peterborough always seem to produce top quality strikers with a string moving on to the championship for big money. Godden could be the next in that line after his early season form has helped Peterborough to an early lead in League 2. He scored another two, taking his tally to six for the season in a 3-2 away win for Posh.

Cesar Arias - ST - OVR 69 We end the week and potentially FIFA 18 Predictions with a punt from Colombia, one of the few leagues still operating for this selection period. Arias came off the bench to score a hat trick which under normal circumstances makes him a sure thing but with the match being played on Wednesday alongside it being an international break there are multiple uncertainties surrounding this one.
