FIFA 18 Team of the Week 45 Predictions

Last week's score: 11/23
Formation: 3-4-1-2
Squad Link:

Alex McCarthy - GK - OVR 75 Many had Palace as favourites when hosting Southampton on Saturday, but it turned out anything but that with Southampton winning by the relatively comfortable score line of 2-0. Once again, McCarthy played a big part in the result. In total he made six saves with his early season performances already seeing him claim a call up to the international side.

Jose Holebas - LB - OVR 78 Holebas has already been snubbed during the early weeks of the season but he has been a huge part of Watford's 100% start to the season. That streak got that much more impressive as they came from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1. Holebas picked up both the assists, putting him on one goal and four assists for the season after only four games.

Nicolas Nkoulou - CB - OVR 78 With Nkoulou already having two in-forms to his name, a third for just a goal could be pushing it. With a special performance usually being required after a couple of IFs, seeing as though it's late in the game and he scored the only goal for Torino in their 1-0 win, I am willing to take the punt on him.

Ismael Traore - CB - OVR 76 Ten-men Angers managed to sneak a 1-0 win over Lille from which there are two potential IF''s with both Traore and Butelle standing out. For me it comes down to Traore being a gold which makes him easier to fit into the side. He scored the only goal of the game and was solid at the back throughout.

Hakim Ziyech - RM - OVR 81 Although Ziyech failed to claim Player of the Week, which is often needed for an Eredivisie player to be selected, that was only down to an exceptional performance elsewhere. Due to that I can see two inclusions coming their way. Ziyech still received a huge match rating of 8.5 after he picked up both a goal and assist in a 4-0 Ajax win.

Leon Goretzka - CM - OVR 83 We saw Muller awarded an IF for just a goal and assist for Bayern last week and it now looks as though another Munich CM will be getting an IF for the same thing. New signing Goretzka is the man with it, coming in Munich’s 3-0 win away at Stuttgart.

Kevin Prince Boateng - CAM - OVR 80 Boateng is often a favourite among IFs with him being a largely likeable character. He is now in line for an IF after his goal in Sassuolo's enthralling 5-3 win saw him claim Man of the Match with an 8/10 match rating.

Carlos Vela - RW - OVR 82 There were several high scoring MLS games this week which as you can imagine resulted in several TOTW options. One that I just couldn't ignore was a familiar face in Carlos Vela. The Mexican winger scored twice and assisted another in Los Angeles's 4-2 away win over Toronto.

Luis Suarez - ST - OVR 92 When Barcelona win heavily, like they did this week with an 8-2 score line going their way it's often the same faces performing well. Messi was clearly the best player on the pitch yet again, but I just can't see any more IFs for him this year. Suarez still has one spot available however and thus his brace and assist is enough for me to select him. Other options are both Alba with a goal and assist and Rakitic with the same.

Karim Benzema - ST - OVR 86 I was wrong on Benzema last week, but after another good performance, I am willing to predict him once again. The Frenchman added another two goals to his tally during Madrid’s 4-1 win over Leganes and unlike last week is the only option from the match. I can't see him missing out again.

Romelu Lukaku - ST - OVR 86 The big Belgian has struggled to get his season up and running, as have United but as is often the case with Lukaku, his goals come in bunches. He recorded two this weekend in a 2-0 win over Burnley, showing just how crucial he is to the side. When he performs well United often get the result.

Walter Benitez - GK - OVR 71 We don't often see anything above an 8/10 awarded from L'Equipe, and when it is, it's usually for something special like a hat trick. But Benitez has managed a massive 9/10 while playing in goal. This is a score that simply won't go unnoticed, and despite being Silver, I am almost certain that he will feature. In total, he made nine saves to keep his clean sheet allowing Nice to win 1-0 against Lyon.

Omar Elabdella - LB - OVR 75 As is often the case with the likes of Olympiakos, they recorded a comfortable win. This time it was 5-0 at home to Giannina, with Elabdella scoring one and assisting another alongside keeping his clean sheet. Greece is often a league which is overlooked, but should EA pick up on it, I find it hard to see Omar missing out.

Nick Viergever - CB - OVR 76 With the Eredivisie seeing several top performances, Viergever is a risk and only just made my side. At the end of the day though, a gold defender with two goals is not something that you often see ignored. Therefore despite his average match rating, and two goals conceded, I just couldn't ignore the PSV defender.

Damir Kreilach - LW - OVR 74 I missed the first IF for Kreilach, however, I shall not be making the same mistake twice after the RSL man scored three goals in a convincing 6-1 home win. Several players contributed to multiple goals, but I can't look anywhere other than the hat trick and thus Damir makes the cut.

Alexandre Lacazette - ST - OVR 85 Many positives and negatives can be taken from Arsenal's narrow 3-2 away win over Cardiff, but what can't be questioned was chemistry between both Lacazette and strike partner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It was the Frenchman’s turn to shine, with a goal and assist going his way. Rightfully so he went on to pick up the MOTM award, and should be picking up his SIF on Wednesday.

Fabio Quagliarella - ST - OVR 78 One of the shock results of the week came as Sampdoria managed a 3-0 win at home to Napoli. Many would be expecting Defrel's two goals to be enough for his inclusion and so did I, that was until Gazzetta released their match ratings from which Defrel was awarded an 8/10 but the somewhat surprise was Quagliarella of whoms goal and assist saw him claim player of the week with a huge 9/10. His goal is one Twitter will be going on about for some time.

Maximiliano Gomez - ST - OVR 00 At one stage of predictions, I was always reluctant to give IFs for just a goal and assist when playing a ST role. But Gomez is the second I have predicted with exactly that this week, strangely enough both of which would be SIFs. Gomez's shout comes during an impressive 2-0 home win over Atletico Madrid for Celta Vigo.

Michael Leahy - CB - OVR 59 We were anything but short on defensive options with many defenders popping up with multiple offensive contributions. In the end we find ourselves in Ireland for the reserve defensive position with Leahy. The CB scored two of three St Pat goals in a 3-0 win.

Steven Naismith - LM - OVR 73 Naismith has been on the brink of my prediction a few times this season but after he finally found himself scoring three goals he makes the side. There was also an assist to his name in Hearts convincing 4-1 win, making him one of the easier selections this week.

Abdenasser El Khayati - CM - OVR 66 Talking of easy selections, we move on to a player with four goals to his name, all of which came while playing a CM role, impressive to say the least. Den Haag went on to win the game 4-2, but all eyes were on Khayati, as he stole the show.

Ondrej Duda - CM - OVR 73 Although there is a lot of competition from silver and bronzes this week I just can't ignore Germanys player of the week, which in this case is Duda. The Slovakian managed to bag himself a brace scoring both Hertha Berlin goals in a 2-0 away win over Schalke.

Adam Szalai - ST - OVR 75 With a lot of low scoring draws occurring in the Bundesliga those that did perform I feel will get in. Szalai claimed MOTM for his brace in Hoffenheim’s 3-1 win, which saw him awarded with a 1.5 from Kicker.
