Jan Oblak - GK - OVR 88 It’s going to be difficult predicting this side in terms of who deserves it against who the community is likely to chose for FUT, especially considering that all the nominees have a valid shout for the side. Thankfully for the first decision Oblak fulfills both categories. The 88 rated La Liga stopper has been brilliant for Atletico Madrid all season and arguably should have already received an IF. In total he has nineteen clean sheets with just fifteen goals conceded in 31 games.
Ben Davies - LB - OVR 80 The fact Davies is a Premier League options helps his cause, but I feel as though he has done enough to deserve a spot regardless. It is not an easy task to keep Danny Rose out the side, but Davies has managed to do that. Spurs have an impressive defensive record in yet another brilliant showing from them this year. Not only has he helped defensively but also offensively picking up an impressive six assists and two goals. I’m more surprised at the fact he is yet to pick up an IF.
Gerard Pique - CB - OVR 87 You could argue that Pique doesn’t deserve it and to an extent I agree but under the circumstances I can fully understand it should he make the side. Pique is and always has been one of the best CB’s around. His season hasn’t particularly been stand out but without an IF to his name he will always be a frontrunner for these sorts of sides. Once again Barcelona’s defense has been impeccable conceding only fifteen times with the Spaniard also chipping in with two goals up the other end.
Giorgio Chiellini - CB - OVR 89 With the defenders being very difficult to select between alongside the fact that Chiellini is by far the best FUT option I can see him being forced into the side by many. Juventus came back late in the season and now look set to pick up yet another title. Even with the absence of usual defensive partner Bonucci, Chiellini has adapted well and helped to record yet another impressive record for Juventus’s defense, conceding just 18 goals from their 31 domestically played matches.
Kieran Tierney - LB - OVR 78 I feel as though most squads will try and stick to some sort of positional correctness but with no gold RB options, the LB is the next best thing. Tierney is an attractive offensive option with the youngster claiming three goals and another six assists to go alongside that. Celtic won the league once again, as you would expect, with Tierney developed into one of their main players during the season. I can’t see it being much longer before big clubs come calling for this talent.
Aviles Hurtardo - LW - OVR 78 Hurtardo has been on the brink of my TOTW prediction on several occasions this season so it is no surprise that he makes the shortlist for this side. I am going one further and saying that he will make the eventual squad. He is currently the top goal scorer in the Mexican league with 18 goals and has five assists to go alongside that. He is a constant threat going forward and has been crucial for Monterrey all season.
Sergio Busquets - CDM - OVR 87 For the center of midfield, I have opted for two players of whom largely go unnoticed for the importance they play for their retrospective sides. Of course, Busquets is always being praised for that role, but it is still true. Alongside that he is one of only a few high rated midfielders and I believe that will have an impact on the side. He picked up a winter upgrade from EA which when you only have a goal and three assists to your name shows just how well he has been playing.
Javi Martinez - CDM - OVR 86 With the retirement of Alonso and Lahm Bayern were always going to struggle to fill those boots but with Kimmich and Martinez they have done superbly. Martinez is arguably their unsung hero throughout the season. His offensive statistics are nothing to shout about but his role in the side simply can’t go unnoticed
Jose Callejon - RW - OVR 83 Napoli led Calcio A for a long time this season and for a while it looked like they could go all the way. With Juventus continually picking up three points they felt the pressure and began dropping points that they shouldn’t drop. Regardless of that they have still had a brilliant year with Callejon playing a huge part of that scoring nine goals and assisting another five. He is an attractive option in terms of FIFA which will only help his cause.
Jamie Vardy - ST - OVR 81 Unlike most other positions there are no real stand out players in terms of FUT with 81 rated Jamie Vardy being among the highest ratings. That alongside the fact he is from the Premier League means that there is almost no way he will miss out with 15 goals despite other options having better statistics. Not quite the same as previous seasons but 15 goals for Vardy is still an impressive amount.
Moussa Marega - ST – OVR 79 When making this side Marega was one of the first names that popped to mind simply due to the fact of just how many times he has narrowly missed out when I have been predicting TOTW. The Porto striker is regularly among the goals with twenty to his name with a lot o those coming two per game. He is one of the highest goal scorers without an IF and with a decent FUT item is among one of the favourites to pick up a community TOTS item.
Alisson - GK - OVR 80 It was rather tempting just to opt for Courtois as the other keeper simply for FUT reasons, but Alisson is one of the most deserving candidates of the whole side and thus I just couldn’t ignore him. He regularly saved Roma, individually helping them pick up points, making save after save. Roma have a defensive record to be proud of too, conceding just 26 goals in the 31 games they have played.
Phillip Max - LB - OVR 77 Even though Max obtains only the 7th highest average rating when it comes to Kicker I feel that his assist total will carry him through. With 13 to his name he leads the charts in Bundesliga which from LB is quite something. He regularly features in Kicker’s TOTW, five times to be exact which for a team like Augsburg, who struggle defensively is something Max can be proud of.
Marko Van Ginkel - CM - OVR 78 The first of two Eredivisie players to make by cut is Van Ginkel. PSV look set to become champions with the midfielders 13 goals being a big part of that, despite many of those coming from the penalty spot. Van Ginkel also performed well defensively throughout the season but when people see 13 goals for a midfielder I feel that he gets a huge advantage.
Ruud Vormer - CM - OVR 77 It will always be difficult for players such as Vormer to get a selection for sides like this but with ten goals and fifteen assists to his name from central midfield can anyone really leave him out. He is one of a few that really stand out on the statistics. He leads the pro league in terms of assists and developed into one of Brugge’s main players this season.
Alireza Jahanbahsh – RW - OVR 77 When you contribute to 24 goals from the wing in a season then its only right to receive some sort of recognition for that. Jahanbahsh may not be a popular player on FIFA and the Dutch league is not the most widely followed but when looking for options he really does stand out as one of the best. AZ are not one of the elite sides in Holland which makes it that much more impressive. He has been robbed of a TOTW spot on several occasions, surely not a TOTS as well.
Nemanja Nikolic - ST - OVR 75 The MLS is a difficult league to predict from with contrasting season dates against the FIFA release but with just a handful of games being played this season last season must be accounted for. Nikolic led the MLS goal scoring table with an impressive 24 goals last season and has three already in the early days of this one. He was nominated for MLS MVP and was snubbed countless times for an IF. All in all, he is one of the most deserving candidates for this spot.
Burak Yilmaz - ST - OVR 78 The Turkish league often has candidates for these sides which fall just short of a spot however they usually have a large backing and thus Yilmaz, who is one of the first candidates who really does deserves a spot is highly likely to get in. The Trabzonspor striker has found the back of the net on twenty occasions so far this season with an additional two assists to go alongside that
Presnal Kimpembe - CB - OVR 78 At just 22 years of age Kimpembe has broken into the PSG side and made the CB position his own alongside Thiago Silva. He may not have the goals or assists to his name, but his defensive displays have been nothing short of immaculate time and time again. He stands at second position in the L’Equipe overall standings which shows just how well he has been performing. Regular Ligue 1 watchers continue to praise him with PSG looking to have acquired a player for years to come.
Camillo Ciano - CAM - OVR 73 Although I expect most of this side to be gold there are a few exceptions, one of which is Ciano. Frosinone currently lead the second division of Italy with Ciano playing a large part in that. The Italian has been directly involved with 26 of their goals (11 goals, 15 assists) from CAM which is impressive regardless of the league you are playing in.
Lee Jae Sung - CM - OVR 76 I really hope that Sung doesn’t miss out due to the division he plays in because he is in the top five candidates at the very least. Jeonbuk often dominate the K-league and a similar story occurred again but to contribute to 20 goals in a season (8 goals, 12 assists) from CM is incredible. To top it all off he also won K-league POTY if he doesn’t make the cut it would be a real shame.
Adebayo Akinfenwa - ST - OVR 64 Onto a fan favorite now in Akinfenwa. Not only does the name carry a lot of say in this decision but he has contributed to the second highest amount of goals this season within the shortlist with 29. 17 of those have came in the form of goals while the other 12 have been assists. Despite playing in a division which plays more games than his fellow competitors for this spot I feel as though the strongest player in FIFA has one of the strongest cases for making the side.
Jaime Mata - ST - OVR 72 With 26 goals to his name it makes Mata the highest scoring player on the shortlist, which alone makes him one of the favourites to get the nod regardless of the league he plays in. As you would expect with 26 goals Mata is also leading the goals in the Segunda division, he also has five assists for good measure.
