Welcome to the Futhead FIFA21 Rating Predictions! Ahead of FIFA21 you'll find a new rating prediction article each week, covering a different top European club. In the squad you will also find potential transfers 'long list' for that club as OTW items!
Thibaut Courtois - GK - OVR 88 -> 88 It was a strong season for both Real Madrid and Thibaut Courtois who managed to win another La Liga title while only conceding 25 goals in the process. With Courtois already being one of the highest rated goalkeepers in the game it's hard for any real movement on his base item and thus I would expect him to remain at the 88 rating going into the new game.
Marcelo - LB - OVR 85 -> 84 I wouldnt say that Marcelo has been bad this season with the Brazilian doing a job while on the pitch for Madrid but with just 15 games to his name domestically this season I feel as though his time at Madrid is coming to an end, especially with the likes of Mendy coming through the ranks. Its hard to give a downgrade to Marcelo but with the Brazilian being one of the highest rated LB's in the game its hard to maintain that sort of rating while only playing half of Madrids games.
Sergio Ramos - CB - OVR 89 -> 89 Another player heading into his final seasons at Madrid is Ramos. There is one major difference here though and thats that Ramos still plays almost every game for Madrid. The Spaniard is still a crucial part of their side playing 35 games domestically and scoring eleven in that time. I almost opted to boost Ramos to a 90 rated item but with the age factor being a thing from EA I feel that its much more likely that he instead just maintains the 89 rated he currently obtains.
Raphael Varane - CB - OVR 85 -> 86 Varane showed significant improvement from the previous season which saw EA opt for a downgrade on him and now I expect him to regain the singular rating that was taken from the Frenchman. He managed to get himself in EA's TOTSSF side for La Liga and with an impressive defensive record for him he looks set to stay in the Madrid defence for years to come.
Carvajal - RB - OVR 85 -> 86 Carvajal is among the best RB its the world and has been for a couple of seasons now. His rating already reflects that but with wingbacks becoming more and more important in the current game I expect that their ratings will slowly start to increase for what has historically been a low rated position in FIFA. Carvajal played a big part at both ends of the pitch for Madrid this season and I feel as though a plus 1 is more than deserved for him.
Eden Hazard - LW - OVR 91 -> 88 I think its safe to say that Hazards first season for Madrid didn't go as both parties and hoped. The Belgian featured in 16 league games and in that time only managed one goal and three assists. Theres simply no way that Hazard will be able to retain a rating as high as 91 with statistics like that. That being said we still know how talented he is as a player and I still expect him to be up there in terms of overall ratings so although he is getting a minus 3 from me, a rating of 88 is still very high.
Casemiro - CDM - OVR 87 -> 88 A lot of emphases was placed on Madrids defensive record this past season and without Casemiro in front of that back four I am confident that it wouldn't have been as impressive as it was. The Brazilian doesnt get the credit he deserves at Madrid having consistently performed for the past three seasons now. Once again he enters the rating predictions already at a high rating but once again I can see a small increase.
Luka Modric - CM - OVR 90 -> 88 Real Madrid have a fair few players approaching the end of their careers and with Modric almost at 35 years of age it is obvious that his level is going to drop from here on out. Obviously the Croatian is still one of the best in the world when it comes to what he does but 90 is a ridiculously high rating, we saw a small drop from FIFA 19 to FIFA 20 and I expect another drop to head his way for 21.
Toni Kroos - CM - OVR 88 -> 89 With so many of Madrids players being worldwide known stars he ratings very rarely differ significantly from their starting side with just a one or two change being the likely outcome. Kroos excelled once again in the middle of the park, enough so to warrant him going from 88 to 89 in my eyes. Playing the vast majority of Madrids games this past year and chipping in offensively on a regular basis.
Gareth Bale - RW - OVR 85 -> 84 The drama surrounding Bale increases as time goes one. It now looks as though the Welsh international will sit out his time at Madrid while Zidane continues to bench the talented winger. Obviously Bale is much more capable that the predicted rating suggests but while he is not playing football his rating is only going to go one way and it looks as though we are not going to see prime Bale again simply due to him being uninterested in the sport.
Karim Benzema - ST - OVR 87 -> 88 Benzema never gets the credit he deserves and I believe that to be the fact he is always in the shadow of other big named players at Madrid. Once again the Frenchman played a huge role in their season though scoring an impressive 21 domestic goals. Despite his age I can still see Benzema entering the new game on a rating as high as 88.
Ferland Mendy - LB - OVR 80 -> 82 Mendy actually received a lot of game time for Madrid last season and I feel as though he will make the LB spot his own in the 2020/21 campaign until that is officially the case though I believe his rating will remain modest. The Frenchman has the ability to reach the top of the game but as of now I don;t see him going any higher that the 82/3 range.
Eder Militao - CB - OVR 81 -> 81 Militao is still a young talent but as things stand he is failing to make an impact at Madrid with gametime being limited for the Brazilian. When Ramos decides to part ways with the club he may well get the chance to step up but until then I can't see him making many strides in this Madrid side and thus his rating is unlikely to make much movement.
Federico Valverde - CM - OVR 81 -> 83 Valverde already managed to pick up a winter upgrade during FIFA 20 which does limit his overall growth for 21 but I do see the Uruguayan managing to gain a couple more. The young midfielder managed some serious gametime for Madrid last season with the Spanish champions looking set to bring him into the side as a first team regular after several impressive displays for them and at just 22 years of age we could be hearing the name Valverde for quite some time.
Isco - CAM - OVR 86 -> 85 The biggest question here is what position will Isco be with Madrid deploying him on both wings and in the CAM role on a regular basis over the course of the 2019/20 campaign. I do feel that EA will opt to keep him in the CAM role which makes him a lot more useable for FIFA players. That being said I do expect to see a downgrade for him after a quiet season for the Spaniard.
Vinicius Jr - LW - OVR 79 -> 80 Vinicius is another youngster who Madrid are determined on developing into their first team. Although 17 were off the bench the Brazilian featured in the majority of Madrid games this season. I wouldn't say he set the league on fire but to regularly feature in the Madrid side speaks wonders for his talent. As for now I don't expect much of an upgrade but I expect him to escalate at quite some pace in the next few seasons.
Martin Odegaard - CAM - OVR 82 -> 84 It looked as though Odegaards Real Madrid was never going to kick off but after a superb season wityh Real Sociedad alongside the fact that Madrid are looking to save of funds the Norweigen looks set to get another chance for them after they recalled his loan. With the experience now under his belt in La Liga it looks as though he could hit the heights which were originally anticipated of him.
Rodrygo - RW - OVR 76 -> 79 I'm not going to go too crazy on Rodrygo's rating as he is still very young and just how good he can be is yet to be seen. There is a lot of hype around him though after picking up several appearances for Madrid towards the end of the season especially. I think we will be seeing an upgrade on him but I do expect it to be fairly modest and then depending on his gametime during the upcoming campaign we could see another upgrade during the winter upgrades.
Marco Asensio - LW - OVR 83 -> 82 Asensio really kicked off at Madrid before injury unfortunately halted his progress. It was another tough year for the Spaniard who managed only a handful of appearances for Madrid. I don't want to be too harsh on his rating but I do feel that another downgrade is inevitable.
Luka Jovic - ST - OVR 83 -> 81 Although I still believe that Jovic has the ability to play at the top level I do think that Madrid was perhaps too soon for him. The Serbian has seen the vast majority of his appearances come off the bench for the Spanish champions from which he has had very little impact from. A downgrade is inevitable for him but if he manages to get some gametime under his belt I am sure he will go in the right direction in future years.
Potential OTW Items
Dayot Upamecano - CB - OVR 77 -> 81 Real Madrid are not likely to make many big signings this season with them freeing up funds and allowing the youth system to excel instead but one player they could dip into the market for is Leipzigs talented defender, Upamecano. The Frenchman stood out this season and is developing into one of the more promising defenders in Europe. The move would only potentially happen should Madrid decide to ofload either Nacho or militao though.
Eduardo Camavinga - CM - OVR 72 -> 77 If you dont already know the name Camavinga you will in the coming years. At just 16 years of age the Rennes starlet broke into their side and stood out as one of the best talents in Ligue 1 last season and really shoud have made their TOTSSF. Although it is likely that the Frenchman will stay at Rennes for at least another season I am sure that a big club will be signing Camavinga soon enough.
Romelu Lukaku - ST - OVR 85 -> 87 Since leaving Manchester United for Inter Milan Lukaku has not looked back with the Belgian scoring an impressive 34 goals for them this season. This has obviously picked up interest and with Benzema approaching the end of his career Marca have reported that Real Madrid are now keeping on eye on Lukaku. Although I feel it's unlikely Madrid were only linked with a few players at this point in time.
*Please note that these are only rumoured transfers, showing potential OTW options should they happen.
