FUT 19 Marquee Matchups Predictions: 11 October

Back and better than ever: it’s time to hit you with some Marquee Matchup Squad Builder Challenge Predictions.

For a quick refresher, the Marquee Matchups Squad Building Challenges (or MM SBCs) are a weekly event where EA chooses four important, or high profile, matches being played that week around the football world. Players then exchange teams built around requirements relevant to those matchups for rewards. Rewards were almost exclusively packs in FIFA 18; however, EA have been cheeky in the past offering the likes of Team of the Week player packs at select times, and we hope they spice up rewards like that this year again.

This year we expect Marquee Matchups to be released on Thursdays at 6 p.m. (UK time). It should also be noted that we have seen Champions and Europa League themed mini-Marquee Matchups dropped on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as well. Going forward when European matches are featured, we will be sure to include predictions on those too. For now, let’s focus on the predictions for the week to come, which will be all international themed.

Top Picks

As only four matchups typically make the SBC group, here are the four we think are the most likely to be selected:

Disclaimer: These are educated guesses and NOT guarantees. Invest accordingly at your own risk.

Argentina vs Brazil

Match Info: Kicking off our first prediction is a matchup between two South American football giants. These sides are definitely worthy of an inclusion, and with limited options outside of Europe this cycle, The Battle for South America should be the first match on the Marquee Matchups (MM) inclusion sheet.

Predicted Requirements:

  • Team Overall Rating: Min. 78 rated

  • Player Requirement: 1 to 2 players from either nation

  • Team Chemistry: Min. 90 chemistry

Netherlands vs Germany

Match Info: Moving back to Europe, our second pick is another derby between two traditional soccer powerhouses. Recently, both sides seem to be in a sort of transition period, but do not let that fool you from the importance of this match. With plenty of non-rare options to go around make sure to pick up a few investments here.

Predicted Requirements:

  • Team Overall Rating: Min. 77 rated

  • Player Requirement: 1 to 2 players from either team

  • Team Chemistry: Min. 90 chemistry

Spain vs England

Match Info: With a non-football rivalry dating all the way back to 1588, you could say there’s some bad blood between these nations. Recently, on the pitch, both teams have been staples at the top of the FIFA World rankings, and nobody can argue this match is high profile. Both nations boast a lot of quality non-rare options which should hold their value well even if this matchup doesn’t feature.

Predicted Requirements:

  • Team Overall Rating: Min. 77 rated

  • Player Requirement: 1 to 2 players from each team

  • Team Chemistry: Min. 90 chemistry

Slovakia vs Czech Republic

Match Info: The Federalist Derby pits these two nations against each other in a fierce rivalry that should catch EA’s attention. This is exactly the type of curveball selection that has marked MM SBCs for the past two years. Make sure to stay as close to discard as possible on these items, but this low risk investment could yield huge profit.

Predicted Requirements:

  • Team Overall Rating: Min. 70 overall

  • Player Requirement: 1 to 2 player from either team

  • Team Chemistry: Min. 85 chemistry

Sleeper Picks

There’s never four clear locks for Marquee Matchups, and we would not be doing our due diligence as investors if we didn’t consider additional fixtures. With already plenty of writing above, we’re going to keep this section short this week, and just hit you with the essentials:

Peru vs Chile

Match Info: Our main Marquee Matchups choices skewe European; however, there are some quality games in South America that should not be ignored. The derby between Peru and Chile definitely fit the bill for a sleeper selection. This game has not been receiving too much hype so there is still time to get in on the ground floor.

Predicted Requirements:

  • Team Overall Rating: Min. 72 overall

  • Player Requirement: 1 to 2 player from each team

  • Team Chemistry: Min. 85 chemistry

Colombia vs Costa Rica

Match Info: I was really trying to find a matchup that did not feature solely European or South American sides, but this was the best I could do. Colombia and Costa Rica may not be a derby, but these two sides are still significant in the world of football. More importantly, there is a sizable pool of golds that would help EA with establishing requirements.

Predicted Requirements:

  • Team Overall Rating: Min. 74 overall

  • Player Requirement: 1 player from each team

  • Team Chemistry: Min. 80 chemistry

Ireland vs Wales

Match Info: This last sleeper is a little bit of a gut call. Something about these two nations being so close means it’s not a far fetch to see a slight rivalry atmosphere here. Again, Ireland vs Wales is just the right amount of fringe that EA love to use as curveballs in these SBCs. Very low risk investing here.

Predicted Requirements:

  • Team Overall Rating: Min. 74 overall

  • Player Requirement: 1 to 2 player from either team

  • Team Chemistry: Min. 85 chemistry

Deep Sleeper Picks

International matchups are always tricky to predict. This week there are a few nations that square off in a couple matchups that are MM worthy, so make sure to consider these possibilities.

France vs Germany, Belgium vs Netherlands or Croatia vs England
